Performing Garfield well means finding that flat, self-satisfied tone that never breaks even when Jon’s losing it, treating every complaint about his weight or his eating habits as barely worth acknowledging and answering each one with the same unbothered confidence. Performing Jon means committing fully to the escalating frustration rather than playing it low-key, since his arc across the pack is really one long slide from mild annoyance over a fat joke to full exasperation over an empty pantry, and undercutting that buildup flattens the whole joke by the time his big meltdown line arrives.

With twenty lines split almost evenly between just two characters, this is a solid length for a pair who want a full comedic arc rather than a handful of one-liners — long enough for Jon’s frustration to actually build across several exchanges and short enough that neither voice starts to feel repetitive by the end of the run.
